Tuesday's Lecture (11/18/08)

In my opinion Tuesday's class was one of the best of the semester. I really appreciated the way the hour and 1/2 was divided between lecture and an activity that really allowed us to experience and conceptualize the material in a concrete way. Being asked to "take a stand" regarding particular social issues and ways to address social change/concerns allowed me to attatch concrete meanings to the issues and theories we were presented with in class.

I also appreciate the format of Tuesday's class because it was nice to have the opportunity to get up and move around in a lecture hall, to experience a more interactive lesson instead of a purely presentational lesson. I really liked Tuesday's activities as well because I felt as though it gave me an opportunity to hear the thoughts of classmates in different dicussion sections. I really enjoyed hearing the multiple perspectives in the room.

Most importantly, however, Tuesday showed me that there are many different ways to effect change in our community, that different people will have different methods/comfort levels regarding this. Because of this fact we all should think of the multiple perspectives in society and the multiple ways that exist to effect change.

I agree with your opinion about the lecture. I enjoyed how it was broken up into lecture and an activity. More importantly, I learned that there are more than one way to fix or change problems that are occurring within our society.

I also liked the lecture. I liked the change of pace and and the idea of "taking a stand" for what we thought was important. It was also nice to hear the opinions of classmates who aren't in our discussion section.

I liked being able to interact with others in our lecture a little bit and hear their point of views on certain issues. It definitely made the lecture more interesting and I liked being able to voice/show my opinion.

I believe sometimes when you physically interact with a academic environment it enhances your education. This activity had this effect on me. What I did notice was: on some of the answers on how we fix our society -- I was never really fully comfortable with any of them. Seems to be a lot of pros and cons to every answer.

The activity included in this lecture not only made me take my own stand, expressing my own opinions, but helped me to see where people with different ideas may be coming from. As Isabel and I stood alone in 'corner D' discussing why we chose the same option, I was honestly interested in the differences/similarities presented by the other groups.

I agree that this lecture was very educational because everyone had to participate. Like a couple of the others have commented, I also learned the different ways to help change a problem in a society. I also discovered that the choice that I felt would be the most effective in changing a problem was not the one that I chose as being most comfortable in doing.
