Obersvation fo the A Day Without a Mexican

I felt this film was very interesting. It informed me about a lot of things that I did not know about the immigrants who come to California to work everyday. The main thing I learned from this film is how much the state profits from these workers. Most of the states economy is based off of agriculture. If it was not for the Latinos working the fields and picking the crops, then California would be in even more trouble then it is now.
From watching the film, we learn how if many Americans achieved their goals of getting rid of illegal works, then our country would not be able to function the way it has been. Many of these people need to do their own research and learn how the Latinos are helping our economy as a whole before they jump to the conclusion of needing to get rid of the illegal workers.

I was also surprised at the extent of which the state profits from these undocumented workers. I believe the documentary said something like they cost the state 3 billion dollars but that they bring in 70 billion dollars. Thats still a net gain of somewhere around 67 billion dollars.

I agree that this film was very enlightening. I did not realize just how much Latino immigrants contribute to our economy and what an impact they make on our society. Without undocumented workers, our economy would fall apart. Undocumented workers don't just take jobs away from Americans; they help us out greatly.

Yea.... the film was pretty sweet... and I agree with Elaina's post... so many people complain that undocumented immigrants cheat the healthcare and welfare system, but honestly they contribute SO much more to the economy.

Many people in our country take for granted on how things occur in just a general day. If we would stop a second and realize that we are so depended on this minority, we would not want to push them out of our country. Sometimes it appears that those people, who believe we should push mexicans and other latinos out of the country, are those who are ignorant of their contributions.

I agree with what has been said. I feel like the movie did a really good job at highlighting the fact that we depend so much upon immigrants in this country. Many people who are against immigration are simply ignorant of the major contributions all over the country by the people who they simply don’t want in this country. If everyone would just take some time to examine just how much gets done, they wouldn’t insist on getting rid of these immigrants.

I know that the impact Latinos have on American society and economy is huge, but the movie helped me realize seriously how much impact they have. Besides, the film was pretty entertaining. :) All the American citizens who complain constantly about the presence of immigrants seriously can't even grasp how much our country actually needs these people.

I believe that it is the job of the government to help get rid of this anti-immigrant discourse being felt by Mexicans and other Latinos living in the US. WIth dozens of legislations using these racist and xenophobic terms such as "illegal alien" and "wetback" it is only expected that Americans would assume that these immigrants are to blame for the economic downturn of the country. Even though, through the movie we were able to see what a important and necessary role immigrants do provide for a multitude of services such as in agriculture and the service industry.
