Spanish as a second language
Personally, I have always felt that Spanish was an important language within the United States, though many may disagree. I do not like the fact that many people feel they can go by with a few words such as, por favor and gracias. It isn't ok, and it can be especially hurtful if by doing so they are simply making fun of the beautiful language. We should all strive to learn as much as we can about Spanish.

I agree to some extent with this post. I definitely agree that Spanish is popular. With the growth of the Latino population in America, this is of even greater importance. However, I do not think that we necessarily have to learn Spanish. As natives, it is not our responsibility. However, I am not saying we must discriminate against those who speak Spanish. We definitely must be more respectful of these individuals.
I don't agree with the previous comment. I do believe that it is the responsiblity of Americans to learn a second language and it would only be natural for that to be spanish since it is becoming the second largest language in the United States. I think for too long now, the US has refused to become as international and global as it likes to think. Other countries school systems require that its student take a foriegn language, but America does not. I think that Americans need to stop being so stubborn and falling back on this is America and we speak english. I personally envy those who are bilingual and wish that I could've learned a second language at an earlier age.
